    Help on 5/13! Please!
    The Watch City Festival blood drive on Sunday, May 13th is finally a go! The first time for this venue, and an ARC bus behind City Hall, right in the center of the action. Dress up in your finest Victoriana and recruit donors! Please? We need you! I especially need one person, or a group trading off, to be the point person on the ground from shortly before and during donor hours. You've seen me troubleshooting whatever comes up, because something always does. I also have Heinlein Society tchotchkes for you to give away to donors, if you're so inclined. Do let me know!     Arisia Blood Drive
    Arisia 2012 Blood Drive collected 120 units of blood. 80 on Saturday for MGH. 40 for Children's on Sunday. Thank you everyone!

    Introduction
    Howdy, my name is Marty, and I'd like to be a Naughty Nurse this year. I learnt about it via [info]green_felt, and it sounds like great fun. I'm a guy, and not particularly given to wearing revealing clothing, but I do a fairly spiffy cosplay of the Medic from Team Fortress 2 (and an absolutely terrible fake German accent, which is authentic to the character). I feel he is amply naughty to be a Naughty Nurse.

    I'm glad to have this opportunity to help the Red Cross. Their outdated policy of not accepting blood from men who sleep with men prevents me from donating, but I believe in their mission. See you there!

    Skit
    It looks like we may be down our skit leader this year. It sounds like there is a family illness that may keep her away this year. So we definitely need all the assistance available for the skits this year. [info]hnybny and [info]trowa_barton have both been fantastic when putting these together and on stage. We can use everyone's help along with their input. All we really need to do this year is something simple, and to just get our message out.

    Time?
    So what times are people available to work the table and wander with clipboards? We need to have coverage on Friday late afternoon & evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning and afternoon. We will have a sign up sheet up at our table as well for you to sign up for specific shifts.

    I think you already know this but if you were comped for this year, you are expected to work the 3hrs. It can be a combination of things such as skits, table, and clipboards throughout the weekend. Also depending on how many people we have for the calendar, people who put in the time will be more likely to appear in the calendar. Meaning if you just show up for the photoshoot and not other areas, you may not appear in the calendar depending on how much room I have for it.

    Hope everyone survived Thanksgiving!

    I need to know who has a membership already, and who still needs one?

    Also things to consider: We always need people to work the table. Are there certain times that would work better for people due to their schedules. I also need to know what times people are not available on Saturday so I schedule the photographer.

    Introduction
    Most of you don't know me. Since I wanted to comment and participate, I figured I should say hi.

    After years of not going to the convention (for complicated and silly reasons), I decided this was the year. Everyone tells me it's great so I need to see for myself. I'm friends with Pale Chartreuse and thought that being a NN sounded wonderful so that's why I'm doing this. I have no idea what to expect but am looking forward to it.

    I'm just putting my uniform together so any advice would be appreciated. I'm around a size 12/14 so plus sizes can be too big and regular too small or not available. It's a total pain in general.

    Oh, for the record I won't be using the Facebook group. I don't like FB and I don't want to try and figure out how to hide my "liking" the page or whatever from people who I don't want to see it. There is also the real name factor.

    Arisia 2012 comps and org chart
    Hi,

    So it's getting to be that time of year again. I've gotten the comp situation straightened out; it's my call as to whether or not you all are comped as Talent or Staff. There are some differences:

    • Staff:You fill out a timesheet. 8 hours gets you this year's staff T-shirt and 12 hours gets you a free membership next year. You have access to Staff Den.

    • Talent:You don't fill out anything; you're comped for the days you work unless you put in more than 3 hours in which case you get a weekend comp for this year. Access to Green Room but no T-shirt.


    From looking through the database, it appears you all were treated as Staff last year and so have comps for this year. This makes treating you as Staff this year more likely since giving you comps when you're already comped doesn't really help.

    But it's your call but keep in mind that I'm going to treat all Nurses the same; it won't work to have some comped as Staff and others comped as Talent.

    In addition, it seems that [info]pale_chartreuse is running things this year; do you want to be listed in the A'12 Org Chart and, if so, using what name?

    Is there anything you need from me at this point? There will be a Rocky on Friday; I can put you in touch with the usual folks if you want.

    Forehead slapping moment
    I need a photographer for my son's Bar Mitzvah in May. I'm getting sticker shock for some of the "packages" that I am seeing. Then I realize, "Wait, I've worked with a photographer that I like, recently even." (forehead slapping noise goes here) Does anyone have contact information for the NN calendar photographer and/or his assistant, Rachel's daughter?

    "I Fight for the Nurses"
    Saturday's Pre-Masquerade Skit

    I hope I'm not stealing [info]hnybny's thunder by posting this. I actually want to praise her and [info]trowa_barton for this totally awesome skit. I believe it was his creative baby, but she really brought it to life with the perfect attitude and ad libbing.

    I've been running the skits for so long, I was afraid of what would happen if I let go. But this pregnancy is so totally draining me I just didn't have anything to give for a second skit.* That Saturday night, as I was curled up in my hotel bed watching this on Arisia tv, I couldn't have been happier/prouder/more relieved. It gives me hope that if I'm too busy with a baby next year, things will still go on without me.

    A further word on that. I'm getting the sense that there may be a bit of a regime change next year. Both myself and [info]trowa_barton will have our own new babies to contend with next year. I also hear that [info]gingerkat may take a well deserved break from all the NNurse related stresses and actually enjoy the con for a change. This means we will need new people to step up. So start thinking about the possibility of taking on a little more, because you know, we're always looking for new blood. *grin*


    *I barely had anything for the first skit. Thanks to [info]pale_chartreuse for the "Avater" idea, to [info]heinleinfan for running with it and creating that awesome filk.

    Thank you, one and all, for once again amazing me and everyone at Arisia with your talent and dedication. Just got a message from my contact at MGH with updated numbers: 114 presented, 84 donated, 65 were first time donors with MGH. We scheduled 140 for appointments with them by the end of the day on Saturday, so bravo!
